* If YOU speak with a debt collector:

        1. Write down the date and time of the call

        2. Write down the telephone number of the agency

        3. Write down the name of the agency

        4. Write down the name of the person that called

        5. Write down what the person tells you

        6. Write down anything you tell the person

        7. If you have an attorney, tell the agency:

                  a. The attorney’s name; and

                  b. The attorney’s telephone number

                  c. Ask you attorney to fax a Letter of Representation to the                        agency

* If the debt collector LEAVES A VOICEMAIL:

         1. DO NOT erase the voicemail, save it; and

         2. Call Meier LLC immediately.

* If YOU send a letter to the collection agency:

         1. By mail: send the letter Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested

          2. By fax: keep the confirmation page

 

 

 

* If the collection agency calls you at WORK:

        1. Write down the date and time of the call.

        2. Write down the telephone number of the agency

        3. Write down the name of the agency

        4. Write down the name of the person that called

        5. If your employer prohibits personal telephone calls, limits personal calls

             to emergencies only, or you do not feel comfortable discussing personal

             matters at work, tell the agency that you are not allowed to take their

            calls at work and do not want to talk about personal matters at your

            workplace.

 

* If the debt collector spoke to a FRIEND, FAMILY,

   MEMBER, CO-WORKER, OR NEIGHBOR:

         1. Find out what the debt collector told them

         2. Find out what they told the collector

         3. Find out when the debt collector called them

         4. Find out how many times the agency called them

         5. Keep any written messages taken for you

* If the debt collector SENDS YOU A LETTER:

         1. DO NOT throw the letter away, save it.
